LORRAINE A. BORTOLUSSI, Vaughan Family Law Lawyer, Collaborative Lawyer, and Mediator
In Lorraine’s private practice, she represents a full range of clients including those in complex cases. Lorraine has extensive experience representing high-net-worth and self-employed clients who own and operate businesses. She is skilled in the entire spectrum of dispute resolution processes including negotiation, mediation, Collaborative Family Practice, Litigation and Arbitration. Her clients benefit from her ability to provide the most appropriate, optimal and timely resolution of their particular case.
Lorraine was called to the Bar and has been practising Family Law since 1984. As well, Lorraine is an accredited Family Mediator through the Ontario Association for Family Mediation (OAFM) and is a past president of the organization. Her mediation training includes completion of the Harvard University Law School Mediation Workshop in 2001 and a Master of Laws degree specializing in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in 2006.
Lorraine developed the curriculum for the Family Law course delivered by York University in the Certificate Program for Family Mediation and was its inaugural instructor. She went on to teach the Family Law course in the program for two years. Lorraine also sits as a part-time Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court, a branch of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. She also served for six years as a Vice-Chair of the Province of Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT), the final level of appeal for final decisions of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Prior to that, she served for five years as a member of the Province of Ontario’s Licence Appeal Tribunal.
Memberships in key professional associations include the Law Society of Ontario, the York Region Law Association, the Ontario Association for Family Mediation, the York Region Collaborative Practice Group and the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association.
Lorraine’s past community service includes twelve years on the executive of the Board of Directors at Villa Colombo Vaughan (a long-term care home for seniors); Governor on the Board of Governors of Villa Charities Inc. (Toronto), director for the Friuli Benevolent Corporation (a home for seniors); Mater Dei (a rehabilitation program for women); Women in Crisis (a shelter for abused women); Centred on Children Daycare (a childcare program and facility).
