LORRAINE A. BORTOLUSSI, Vaughan Family Law Lawyer, Collaborative Lawyer, and Mediator
In her private practice spanning more than 4 decades, Lorraine represents high-net-worth individuals in complex cases. She negotiates optimal settlements on behalf of her private Family Law clients by employing the most appropriate dispute resolution processes possible.
Lorraine is an accredited Family Mediator (OAFM) and acts as a professional neutral for lawyers who seek her assistance in settling their clients’ family law matters out of court. For her privately retained clients, she often attends the mediation with them as their legal counsel within the family mediation process.
Lorraine is a Past President of the Ontario Association for Family Mediation. Lorraine’s mediation specialty includes completion of the Harvard University Law School Mediation Workshop in 2001 and a Master of Laws degree specializing in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in 2006. She developed the Family Law course for the Certificate program in Family Mediation at York University in 2018/2019 and was a part-time instructor in the course. She coached law students in the Alternative Dispute Resolution courses at Osgoode Hall and has served as an instructor at the Bar Admission Course, Family Law Section.
She is also trained and experienced as a Collaborative Family Law Practitioner and represents clients within this process, which is designed to keep the resolution of the family law matter out of the court system.
In addition to her extensive Family Law knowledge, Lorraine has several years of experience as an adjudicator. She acted as a Family Law Arbitrator in her private practice and as a Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court, a branch of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, for twenty years. She also served as a Vice-Chair of the Province of Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal (WSIAT), the final level of appeal for final decisions of the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board. Prior to that, she spent five years as a member of the Province of Ontario’s Licence Appeal Tribunal.
